How to get the most out of your Bridal Trials

Bridal hair and makeup trials serve as a crucial step towards creating your dream bridal look.

Bridal trials give you the opportunity to experiment with different looks, styles, colors, and techniques to ensure your final wedding day look is everything you ever imagined and more.

Below we explore all the must-dos and don’ts to help you get the most out of your trials and ensure that your wedding day hair and makeup is stress-free.

The must-Dos

1. Schedule your hair trial well in advance

Bridal trials can be done before or after securing your artists. If you’re not sure if the artist is for you, schedule a trial with them before booking them for your wedding day.

If you’ve already booked your dream artists, book your trials a few months ahead of wedding day. This will give you ample time to adjustments and additional trials if needed.

2. Schedule them for the same day

To get the best idea of what you’ll look like on wedding day, I always suggest getting your trials done on the same day. It also gives your artists a better idea of the complete look you’re wanting to achieve.

3. Bring Inspo Photos

Bring all your favorite inspiration photos you’ve collected to your trail session. This will give your artist the best visual representation of your desired looks and help them understand how to achieve it.

4. Openly Communicate with your hair & Makeup artist

Be open and honest about your likes, dislikes and concerns you have about your wedding day look. Expressing these with your artist will help them tailor your wedding day look just for you.

Some examples of things to talk about with your artist-

  • Dry or oily skin and the types of foundation they will be using

  • Fine hair or hair extensions

  • How they want your hair to be on wedding morning- some will want you to wash it the night before

5. Take your dress & wedding theme into consideration

Getting married on the beach? Don’t forget to take that into consideration when looking for hair and makeup styles. You want your look to match your dress and the overall theme of the wedding celebration.

6. Bring any anticipated accessories

If you’re planning on wearing any specific hair accessories, be sure to bring them to your trials. This will help your hair stylist incorporate them into your chosen hairstyle to ensure a seamless finished look. This is also a great time to try out a couple different types of accessories or learn how to take them out if you’re only wearing them for the ceremony.

7. Wear white & take photos

The color you wear on your body can significantly change the look of your makeup. It’s best to wear white to your trials and take photos in multiple different kinds of light. Take photos inside, outside and even use flash to be able to effectively evaluate the overall look from your trials.

Things to avoid

1. Don’t be afraid to voice your opinion

Don’t be afraid to speak up! If you don’t like any aspect of your hair or makeup trial, provide your artist with constructive criticism. The feedback you provide with aide in making the appropriate adjustments to achieve the perfect look.

2. don’t rush the process

Makeup and hair trials take time. Your artist will want to chat about your expectations, look at your inspiration photos and possibly make final adjustments. Avoid scheduling other commitments immediately after your trial session to allow time for your artist to experiment and take photos.

3. Don’t let trends take your look hostage

While exploring the hot wedding trends is a huge part of wedding planning, don’t let it sway your style. Prioritize your wedding theme and dress style when choosing your hair and makeup look. Pick a style that makes you feel comfortable, beautiful and YOU!

4. Don’t forget about longevity and hot weather

Point blank, you want to look flawless for the entire duration of your wedding day. Take a moment and take with your artists to ensure the products they use and the hairstyle you choose will be remain in tact through the entire day and hot, humid weather.

5. Don’t forget about your bridal party

Although most brides opt to let their bridesmaids choose their own hairstyle these days, it doesn’t hurt to offer a hair and makeup trial to ensure cohesiveness amongst the bridal party. This also gives MOB and MOG an opportunity to feel more confident in their wedding day look. They will appreciate the opportunity more than you think.

Bridal trails allow you to create a positive working relationship with your vendors.

Enjoy the process. Take the time and use the inspiration. If you follow these tips, you’re guaranteed to craft your perfect wedding look.
